What Are Special Locations?
Some places require more than just standard electrical work. According to BS7671 wiring regulations, “special locations” are areas where the risk of electric shock is higher or where specific regulations must be followed due to moisture, movement, exposure, or other factors.
These jobs can’t be approached casually — they need correct planning, protection, and full compliance with building and wiring regs.
That’s where BBES comes in.
Locations We Work In
We’ve been trained and assessed to carry out electrical work in a wide range of special locations, including:
- Agricultural buildings and farm environments
- Rooms with baths, showers or wet areas
- Saunas and steam rooms
- Caravans and static homes
- Marinas, docks, and boatyard areas
- Exhibition centres and temporary setups

- Mobile or temporary structures (e.g. cabins, portable units)
Each of these locations has extra safety requirements — including zoning, isolation, bonding, enclosure ratings (IP ratings), and RCD protection.

Agricultural Premises & Farms
Farms and agricultural settings present higher risks — dust, moisture, livestock, and machinery all increase the chance of faults. We handle wiring in:
- Barns, stables, and milking parlours
- Grain stores and feed units
- Workshops and plant sheds
- External lighting and power to outbuildings
- Pumping systems and remote panels
We use proper containment and protection methods to handle harsh, changing environments.
Bathrooms, Wet Rooms & Showers
ooms with water present serious electrical hazards if not wired correctly. We make sure circuits in bathrooms and wet rooms are protected by RCDs, appropriately zoned, and comply with IP ratings for fittings.
From lighting to mirror demisters, extractor fans to underfloor heating — we wire it all, safely.
Saunas & Steam Rooms
These environments demand high-temperature-rated wiring, careful placement of fittings, and strict adherence to zone rules. We ensure cabling, isolators and lights are built to handle the heat, humidity, and electrical load safely.
Marine, Marina & Dockside Installations
Electrical work near water has added risk. We carry out installs and repairs with proper protective devices, moisture-resistant containment, and materials rated for exposure. This includes dockside sockets, lighting, and shore power supplies.
Exhibition Spaces & Temporary Setups
We install temporary power systems for exhibitions, events, pop-up shops, and portable working areas. All installs include proper cabling, distribution, signage, and safety devices to keep things running securely throughout use.
Static Homes, Caravans & Mobile Units
We install and upgrade electrics in:
- Static holiday homes
- Touring caravans (mains hook-up)
- Portable buildings or cabins
- Home offices in converted vehicles or trailers
We ensure earthing, RCD protection, and circuit layout meets the proper standard for mobile or fixed temporary structures.
